After returning from London, Jo and her friend Caroline picked me up so that we could spend the weekend at their home in Blair Atholl, a small Scottish town about 2 hours away. We went for early morning runs and drove around the gorgeous countryside. Every moment was amazing, I feel so at home in Scotland!
Like many Scottish castles, Blair Castle has a long and illustrious history, throughout which it has accumulated many fascinating historical artifacts, including antique furniture, art, period dress and arms and armor. There were tons of antlers mounted on the walls along with an antler chandelier and an antler chair that my Dad would have loved!
Before we had to end our short visit to Blair Atholl, we decided to go to Blair Castle, the ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. With its roots in the 13th century, Blair Castle’s history extends over 740 years. At the gateway to the Grampian Mountains on the route north to Inverness, the location was highly strategic and created originally as a military base. Today the surrounding landscape is full of country homes in the wild beauty of rural Scotland, but centuries ago it was a threatening and dangerous place.
On the way into the ballroom, there was a box of dress-ups.. Jo and Caroline convinced me to try on a dress so I finally convinced them to dress up with me! Blair Atholl was amazingly relaxing and absolutely beautiful.. I love Scotland!
