FIRST DAY IN FIRENZE

MY ROOM
Im alive! Ive made it to Firenze! I arrived yesterday, Januray 3, around 1:00pm and took a small taxi with another Gonzaga student to my hotel. Unbelievable location, 2 blocks from the duomo. It was beautiful and sunny here yesterday but when I woke up this morning (after 17.5 hours of sleep) it was very cold and snowy. My room is very modest, but everything a student would need.
THE DUOMO'S NATIVITY
I have breakfast served at 8am, lunch at 1pm, and dinner served at 7pm most days of the week. I awoke around 8:30 because one of my roommates who has been here for the full year was taking a trip to Istanbul, Turkey and had to pack for her trip. After an early breakfast, the girl whom I had shared a taxi cab with came over to my pensione and we decided to walk around Florence. We first ventured over to the Duomo which was even more beautiful than I had remembered. The inside was decoreated with metal trees that peel outward to hold candles. All of these fixtures centered around a wooden carving of the Nativity.
THE PONTE VECCHIO
We also visited the uffizi and the ponte vecchio. I also encountered my first pair of italian creepers and proudly told them to I was not interested and did not wish to be bothered. haha, so proud of myself. I adore the ponte vecchio and I can;t wait for the weather to get nicer so that I can do my homework there! The city is wildly beautiful, I can already tell that part of me could live here forever .

  2. Caitlin,
Aunt Kris here. Just checking out your blog for the first time and I'm so looking forward to following you on your venture. You made the right choice to push yourself outside your 'comfort zone' and to see new sights. Look at all you have already experienced and you have not even been there 5 days.
    Love, Aunt Kris
